With a desire to retain as much of the 1950’s exterior as possible, Quay Building & Design assisted to convert this much loved family home in to two independent dwellings. Faced with challenging construction requirements to meet the BCA requirements for noise transfer and fire in this existing envelope, the team worked with C+I Partnership to meet two core project goals: To retain the essence, style and soul of the original 1950’s architectural language, whilst creating a bright and airy beachside aesthetic.

A mixture of finishes, both old and new, reinvigorates the design of this old family home keeping the essence and key features including the steel spiral stair, 1950’s fenestration style, and on-trend breeze blocks. Despite the dramatic change of format these elements subtly reinforce the connections to the original home, while creating a modern piece of architecture.
